Skipping Mouthwash Leaves Your Mouth in Harm's Way

You already know that brushing and flossing every day is important to your oral health. You may have also heard that mouthwash is an excellent tool in your daily regimen as well. Despite this, you might decide that the wash isn't necessary. Skipping that rinse, however, can leave your mouth in harm's way.
Bad Breath Germs
One of the main uses mouthwash advertises is that it freshens your breath. Many varieties come in crisp scents like peppermint or spearmint. Your toothpaste also may come in these scents, leading you to believe that it is enough.
Mouthwash has antibacterial agents in it though, that help kill the germs that cause bad breath, something your toothpaste contain, leaving your mouth fresher longer.
Mouthwash can't remove plaque. That's what brushing and flossing are for. Mouthwash can prevent plaque from forming though. It can also help target areas with severe buildup, letting you know the places that need extra attention while you brush.
By adding mouthwash to your daily oral hygiene routine, you cut down on the amount of effort needed to fend off plaque. Too much buildup can lead to gingivitis, cavities and tooth decay.
Stubborn Food Particles
Mouthwash is commonly used after you brush and floss, but did you know that it's beneficial beforehand as well? By swishing some mouthwash around before you start brushing, you can loosen any stubborn food particles that the bristles on your toothbrush might otherwise not be able to reach. These particles can collect, causing a whole host of problems, such as tooth decay, cavities and bad breath, no matter how often or vigorously you brush.
Brushing and flossing every day is essential to good oral hygiene, but these may not be enough to prevent all dental issues. For the most effective plan of action, be sure to add some mouthwash to your daily routine.
